I’m here. The Brooklyn Flea. As I peer through the chain link , I hold my breath at the gorgeous spring day, anxious to see what it will afford me. Mesmerized by the volumes of people corralled within, I enter the Flea only to be consumed by its sights, sounds and smells. With my partner in crime, Jla, by my side we settle in to eat from local food vendors, listen to good music and find our must haves.
Immediately, Jla is compelled to find her ultimate summer outfit: a Caftan.
I’m a bit apprehensive by the prospect but what the hell after all Iman loves caftans and with almost 350 in her possession, she swears she has never met one she didn’t like. Who can argue with Iman, a legendary supermodel? So, I go along for the ride.
We walk up and down the aisles filled with knick knacks, cool vintage shades and custom furniture. I stop to get a cup of scrumptious hot chocolate, when I spy a beautiful pattern in the distance. Jla’s eyes light up and I know she sees her “find” blowing in the cool spring breeze. We make a b-line to a colorful Caftan by Martine’s Dream $110. The flow of this garment is elegant enough to drape any bodice on the shores of St. Tropez and its textile pattern imported from India left us both in awe. Kudos to Jla…She’s right. It is the ultimate summer outfit!
Feeling satisfied from our first fabulous find, we continue on path when Jla sees a sexy low cut silk-screened chemise by Kimmchi $32 that catches her fancy. But I fall in love with a delightful gem right next door. A charming Parachute Jump Necklace by Wabisabi Brooklyn $25. Displayed on a vintage cash register, one side of the pendant is a nickel, the other a whimsical decoupaged photo of the famed Coney Island Parachute Jump.
When I peer into its world, I become nostalgic. Memories of the carny boardwalk and the Wonder Wheel flood in and I then know I have found my dealCOVET.
Exhausted by the deluge of bountiful booty, Jla and I seek refuge in a neighborhood cafe, Chez Oscar, where we pull out our finds over a bottle of Pinot Grigio and an entrée of mussels and fries. We collectively sigh. It was indeed a wonderful day in the BK.

Thanks for including me in this great post!
I am loving this blog…what a fantastic and novel idea, you are now a virtual stylist.
My only concern is that I’m going to run out of money buying all these fabulous clothing.
Wicked!!!!
My absolute favorite dress is from Ililanga – a division of Martine’s Dream!! Wearing anything from that collection is guaranteed to elicit compliments from even the most reticent.
I own one of Martine’s Dream caftans and I just love. I wish I had gotten a few more while I was in New York. I have just returned from vacationing in Majorca, Spain and it is just the best garment for those warm barefoot beach days. Well it is just perfect for a myriad of occasions.
I have one too and I just love it.
